My Journey as a Rotaractor
Hi there! I’m Sonu, and I am honored to serve as the Club Administration Chair for the Rotaract Club of Narayani Mid Town for the year 2024-25, representing District 3292. As I refl ect on my journey, I am moved to share how my passion for service has evolved and shaped my life. From a young age, I was deeply aff ected by the suff ering of others. Growing up in India, I often saw beggars in dire circumstances, which left a lasting impression on me. My heart ached for those in need, and I felt a strong desire to make a diff erence. Even with my limited pocket money, I began a small but signifi cant habit: donating one rupee out of every fi ve I had every day. This small act of giving marked the beginning of my journey toward social work. Interestingly, my commitment to serving others guided me through my academic journey as well. I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, followed by a Master’s in Rural Development. However, due to unforeseen fi nancial challenges, I faced diffi culties in actively contributing to social causes for a while. Despite these obstacles, I held onto the belief that where there’s a will, there’s a way. This belief became a reality when a friend of mine, Srijan Adikari, introduced me to Rotaract. Joining the Rotaract movement was a turning point in my life. Over the past two years of becoming a Rotaractor, I have also had the privilege of serving as the Service Project Chair, coordinating various projects to assist those in need. These experiences have been both meaningful and transformative, allowing me to contribute to my community in impactful ways beyond the boundaries. My journey as a Rotaractor has been fulfi lling and satisfactory, acting as a fuel to my inner self, who always had a thirst to serve others in whichever possible way. Being a Rotaractor has not only enabled me to help others but also facilitated my own personal growth. One of the highlights of my Rotaract journey was participating in an international program in Bangladesh through the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program. This opportunity broadened my perspective, allowed me to form lasting friendships, and deepened my appreciation for the global impact of our work as Rotaractors. Refl ecting on my journey, I realize that my path has been shaped by both challenges and opportunities. My experiences with Rotaract have reaffi rmed my commitment to service and personal development. As I continue my role as Club Administration Chair, I am excited to contribute further to our community and continue growing both personally and professionally. The connections I’ve made, the skills I’ve developed, and the confi dence I’ve gained have been invaluable. Rotaract has helped me become a more capable and self-assured individual, refl ecting on the present me. Thank you for taking the time to read about my journey. I hope my story inspires others to embrace the spirit of service and explore the ways in which we can all make a diff erence in the world.
